In an emergency situation cell phones may not operate as you hope. Towers can be damaged, and services can be overwhelmed making cell phones worthless. In big emergencies, governments can block service. Radios also have some of these weaknesses. FRS [Family Radio Service] gets overwhelmed at the beach! What happens when you need good commo during an emergency or tactical situation? Here at Tun Tavern Tactical, we have done a ‘Tun’ of the legwork for you. Here is what we found:
*This radio covers 2 different HAM radio ranges, the Marine Radio frequencies, the GMRS & FRS ranges and business radio ranges, as well as the FM (Analog) public safety (Fire Rescue, EMS and Police) frequency ranges. It operates on frequencies that are not typically used in the US, (Which means if you are locally tx/rx on a freq used in Africa but not here, it may be illegal……) 3000 channels!
*This radio can listen and transmit on analog radio, but can also use the DMR feature to provide substantial more privacy (There are 3 digital modes – DMR is the most affordable and ONLY DMR can listen/transmit so you have reduced your potential listeners to a max of 100K worldwide DMRs) You can configure your radio to trans/rec only in your group, THERE IS AN ENCRYPTION FEATURE 32BIT, WHICH CAN MAKE YOUR GROUP’S COMS UBER PRIVATE… encryption is NOT permitted under Ham License so don’t use this feature if you want to remain inside the bounds of the rules.
* This radio is high output, this assures that you can communicate over several miles
*This radio had ‘low output’ mode which reduces your signal signature
* This radio is satellite capable! You can bounce a signal off the International Space Station!!!
* WIth this radio, you can communicate your GPS position to group members only (or all DMRs) for rescue/man down or tactical operations
* This radio meets shock-proof and operational waterproof specs (Don’t use it at the bottom of a lake, but if you drop it in a creek, it will still work)
*This kit comes with spare (extended use) battery, Speaker/Mic, Charger, long antenna and programming cable
*You can set up multiple IDs for this radio… (One for non-emergency EDC use, you can call and rec calls from 100K registered ‘addresses’) (and you can set up another ‘private’ ID for use in your group for emergency /grid down ops) (Even a third for inter-group operations).
*This radio can work with our helmet mounted Earpro/headset with boom mic and PTT sold separately
